- Seriously, what are you supposed to do when a burglar is trying to break into your house? Especially when you are alone with kids? I am not just asking idly… …
- I finally received the necklace I custom-made to wear in memory of Ferdinand. I’m going to find time to take pictures and write about it.
- I will be away for about 10 days to our cabin, where there is no TV, telephone or dishwasher. Hopefully I make it back alive.
- I got a translation assignment but the size of it was many times bigger than when we discussed about it a month ago. I will still do it, but I hate that the next weeks will be crowded with work, when I wanna have time to do other things, and think about Ferdinand.
- I have been wondering what it will be like to go cold turkey internet-free. Anyone been-there-done-that?

Huge “yikes” about the burglar! I guess you are supposed to call for help. I would also hold on to something weapon like and cry. What did you do?
I like being internet free for short periods of time, when on vacation with plenty of things to do.
I look forward to seeing your necklace.
Oh, no, really? I always imagine what I would do, which is crawl into the closet with a phone and dial 911, or in my braver moments, begin screaming that I have a gun and to leave now, as I dial 911. It always involves me having a phone.
I have wondered about the cold turkey internet thing often too. I was going to say, “Blog about it when you do it” but that is ridiculous. Have a good time in the cabin…Much love.
Eeek — seriously?? What DID you do? My fantasies always include locking myself in the bathroom & calling 911 on a portable phone. I just read about a teenaged girl in British Columbia who did just that (she called her mother at work first, & left a voice mail message (!) & then called 911). One of the neighbours saw a strange guy leaving the house & took his photo so they were able to catch him.
Cold turkey for how long?? lol I will sometimes go for a weekend without logging online — sometimes longer when I’m on vacation & can’t get near a computer. It’s a weird feeling, & there’s always tons to catch up on when I’m back. It depends on how busy I am how much I miss it, but I find I don’t miss it as much as I think I’m going to.
Scary!! I would probably find a sound click of a shotgun being cocked (cocked, huhuhuhuh) and play it loudly?
Or, call the cops.
Cold turkey internet is fun
Its the only way to truly unwind. Have fun!

Re: burglar – I’m so sorry you aren’t asking idly. I remember a series of burglaries in my old Chicago neighborhood (women were targeted) and how scary that was. My plan would be to gather my kids and either head for a locked room (or one we could barricade ourselves into) or leave the house if there’s an open escape route, and call 911. Possibly trying to set off the fire alarm on my way. Sometimes one loud noise is all it takes to get neighborhood attention and scare someone away.
I hope the trip to the cabin is refreshing. I haven’t been internet-free for a long time, but part of me can see the attractions of it.
I thought someone broke into my house the other night. Turns out it was my new kitty opening and closing the bathroom cabinet doors, but I thought I heard it in the kitchen. So I made MacD go out with a steel bat at 3 AM to search the house for the burglar.
I hope you called the police. How scary. I don’t know what my first reaction would be.
I hope your trip is relaxing. Going cold turkey on the internet might be healing. Sometimes it can be too much to read these blogs. A break is always nice.
I had someone try to break into my house in broad daylight once, while we were home… thankfully the window made a lot of noise and the would be burglar ran off. Don’t know what I would have done otherwise.
Enjoy the stay at the cabin. I stayed in a cabin with my husband for two days, no internet, no cable, only a DVD player and TV… which is more than you’ll have, and I wasn’t there for as long either. But I did survive, and it was *nice* Take care hun, enjoy yourselves.
