Thanks to C. for this tag. I’m nosey too, ha!
1. What were you doing 10 years ago?
Hmm…. I left home, flew to Hong Kong and moved in with then-boyfriend-now-husband. Rented a tiny apartment and broke our backs buying cheap furniture at yard sales and dragging them home, and making umpteenth trips to stores buying all kinds of miscellaneous small little stuff you never thought you would need in your life. Ate dinner sitting on our king-sized futon that took up most of the space of the bedroom/living area; cooked dinner in a one-person only kitchen; battled with roaches, ewe.
Was also working at the University teaching art history courses, and spending way too much money on clothing and shoes.
2. What 5 things are on your to-do list for today?
Clean house; clip the girls’ nails; catch up on blogs; try to survive the 101F heat with A/C being dead; get on R’s back about making an appointment for someone to get the new A/C unit set up.
3. List some snacks you enjoy.
Dark chocolate, sour cream potato chips; peanuts; cold slices of mango; gelato; most fruits; more (dark) chocolate.
4. What would you do with a billion dollars?
Go insane.
I mean, first I will put a good hunk in a reliable bank account so our future generations can benefit from the interest. Pay off all our debts, sell our house and travel the world. Put money into stillbirth research and old people’s diseases. Let my mum retire and give her all the money she needs to lead a good life. Buy all the books i want in the world. Eat only decadent dark chocolates.
I dunno, is this real? I can’t think straight… …
5. List the places you have lived.
(yawn)
- Singapore
- Hong Kong
- Chandler, AZ
6. List the jobs you have had.
- Neighborhood baby-sitter
- Triumph underwear “packer”
- Costume jewelry salesgirl
- Processing clerk at shares-processing company
- Teaching-assistant
- Art gallery assistant manager

- art college lecturer
7. List the names of people you want to know more about:
Uma Thurman, Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes, Joseph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep… … ok, you mean people who will read my blog, right? — I don’t know why they have not been tagged yet (unless I have been blind, or my computer is still being bitchy on me), but I tag my fellow medusas at GITW: Bon, Kate, Tash, Julia, and Niobe.
You’re funny. And thanks for the tag, though I always have trouble with memes.
You had me thinking something pretty naughty re: the underwear “packer” job. Ha!
Loved reading this, Janis. Seriously. I am soooo nosey :o)
ok, C., now you’ve got me curious…. what were you thinking?! *blink blink wink wink*
Hong Kong has yard sales? Hong Kong has yards?
I don’t know why that surprises me. Somehow ‘exotic’ and ‘everything on this table for a nickel’ don’t jive for me. π
Underwear packer… bahahaha I think we were all underwear packers at one point in our lives… oops, nevermind π
[…] 10, 2008 by janistan erm, thanks to C., who tagged me for the meme below, and owing to one previous past life that involves packing underwear, I saw today that […]
LOL Kate. the yard question… it depends on your income bracket, really. The University we were working in had campus sales. and yeah, even if it’s not sold out of a “yard”, it’s still called a “yard sale”. π
Even for me, Hong Kong is exotic. i miss that crazy energy they have there, that “can-do” attitude. the food. the shopping. ah…
I was pretty floored by the yard sales too.
And laughing at your #7. Thanks for the tag– will have to get to it pronto.
Hope your A/C is fixed by now. My life improved dramatically once ours got fixed.
